OUR SUSTAINABILITY MISSION

We are constantly looking at our practices within the work place and the effects these have on the environment. Our aim is to become more sustainable by reducing the amount of waste in the business, as well as offering our customers a collective range of sustainable products from our brand partners.

We have recently moved over to paper filling in our deliveries which our customers can recycle at home. For some more fragile items, we will still use a little bubble wrap however we have invested in a new type which is made up of 50% recycled content.

As well as this we will aim to re-use as many boxes from our suppliers to reduce the amount of cardboard being wasted and purchased.

We are delighted to work with some amazing forward thinking brands who take suitability extremely serious and we are proud to stock their collections. These eco-conscious homeware and gifts brands use either sustainably sourced materials, environmentally friendly manufacturing methods or offer charitable donations to give back to the planet. 

 

We are always looking at ways to help charities throughout the UK and as a result, we decided to invest in a watercooler from AquAid.

Our unique relationship with AquAid has also given our company the opportunity to help those less fortunate than ourselves, because with each purchase an automatic donation is made to The Africa Trust.

These funds are used to build ‘Elephant Pumps’ - a modified version of an age old Chinese rope pulley system. One such pump is currently being installed in Africa on our behalf and it will be a much needed source of clean and fresh drinking water for many.

The About Living name will be proudly displayed on our well and we look forward to adding a photo and a letter of thanks from the villagers to our site in the near future.

To date AquAid have built over 8,000 such Elephant Pumps across parts of Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe; and have donated in excess of £17 million to charity.

 

 

We are proud and honoured to continue to work with the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice charity in our Newton Mearns store with their charity boxes. The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice is a registered Scottish charity that looks after the palliative care needs of people living in and around greater Glasgow.
